Abstract
Ni léir, ar an gcéad amharc, go bhfuil móràn cosulachta ¡dir filiocht
Shomhairle Mhic Gill-Éain agus saothar Sheàin Ui Riordàin. Is file
priobhàideach é an Riordànach. Baineann a chuid filiochta le
coimhlint inmheànach an duine ¡dir bàs is beatha, idir creideamh is
ainchreideamh, idir saoirse is daoirse. Tarlaionn an choimhlint seo i
gcroi an duine féin. Nil cabhair le fàil ó éinne. Caithfidh sé an
‘mise ceart’ (ES. 84) a aimsiu sula bhféadfaidh sé an 'gniomh
oiriunach’ (ES.13) a dhéanamh.
Each mortai thing does one thing and thè same:
Deals out that being indoors each one dwells;
Selves - goes itself; myself it speaks and spells,
Crying What I do is rne: far that I carne. (1)
Siad na coimhiinti céanna atà faoi chaibidil ag Somhairle Mac
Gill-Éain ina chuid filiochta ach go bhfuil siad ar siul, ni i gcroi an
duine ach ar dhromchla an domhain. Is filiocht phoibli cuid mhór dà
shaothar agus fiu ina chuid filiochta grà, briseann an
condition humaine isteach ar a choimhneas pearsanta. Is as an
teannas idir slànu pearsanta agus slànu an domhain a eascraionn
cuid de na dànta is cumhachtai in Dàin do Eimhir.
Cé go raibh an bheirt fhile seo ag plé le nithe uiliocha, ba ina
n-eispéireas agus ina nduchas féin a fuair siad amhàbhar a gcuid
filiochta. Bhi seo le rà ag Seàn Ó Riordàin:
Ma labhrann tu ar an Ego agus gurb é ata i gceist agat nà an
Duine agus an sampla is giorra duitse don duine: taim ag
féachaint ar an duine... Nilim ag cuimhniu ar Sheàn Ó
Riordàin, orm féin go pearsanta, bim ag cuimhniu ar an
duine, ar an aigne sin: deinim amach go bhfuil an sórt sin
filiochta ar an Ego slàintiuil. (2)
Agus i litir a scriobh sé chuig Hugh MacDiarmid sa bhliain 1942 duirt
Somhairle Mac Gill-Éain:
But of course, all art is subjective; the problem is to camouflage
the subjectivity so that it doesn’t offend others, to become
universal or apparently universal in one’s subjectivity....
