    Abstract

This chapter analyses contemporary processes of racialisation within the state in the Republic of Ireland through an examination of three empirical examples: the introduction of a racial/ethnic census question on the Irish census, changes in Irish citizenship laws and changes in Irish language requirements for application to the An Garda Siochana, the national police force.
